((Pre-first year with Cassiopeia Malfoy))
Carefully placing book after book in trunk, Scorpius grimaced at the weight of some of them, already feeling the back ache of carrying them around school for an entire year. Still, he smiled at the sight of them, happy to finally get the chance at a wizarding education and a life outside Malfoy Manor. Hogwarts was less than a week away and, while he was anxious over the trip and the idea of a new school with new people, he couldn't help but to feel relieved at the prospect of being a part of a new atmosphere. Things weren't exactly tense at home, but they weren't easy either, with his grandfather looking over his shoulder at every turn, or the awkward attempts at conversations with his father. Turning to the piles of clothes on his floor, he frowned, noticing something amiss.
"Cassi!! Have you seen my blue cashmere?! Cassi?!"

Cassi had been in the middle of a very important game of 'how long can I put off packing before I regret everything' when her brother started calling for her from down the hall. She hated when he did this. Heaving a sigh, she tossed the muggle book she had been reading to the side and took off running down the hall (much to her Mother's disapproval as she passed.) She skidded to a stop in Scorpius' room, leaning against the door frame as she caught her breath and shot her twin an incredulous look. No, she signed, her hand movements lazy and her expression annoyed. This was why she hated it when he called her; she couldn't very well call back.

When Scorpius saw the look on Cassi's face, he sighed and sat on his bed, obviously pretty stressed out over the whole thing. "Sorry, Cas." He apologized, running his fingers through his hair. "Just a bit tense." He explained, giving her a small smile before moving to look through his closet for his sweater. He pulled out a light blue jumper, not exactly the one he was looking for, but he liked it well enough. "Did you start packing yet or are you still waiting until the day before?" He turned to her, eyebrow raised.

Pushing herself off the door frame, Cassi pursed her lips and sauntered into the room. She crashed onto the bed beside her brother, looking up at him from where she was spread out onto the mattress. It wasn't until he got up to go through his closet that she smiled and raised her hands to sign The day before. Definitely. As excited as she was to go to Hogwarts, she was insanely anxious about being in a foreign place with people who couldn't understand her. She and her twin just dealt with anxiety in different ways. While Scorpius made himself busy and wouldn't let himself sit still, she tended to avoid her problem entirely until she absolutely had to face it. Speaking of Anxiety, the sound of a familiar and bone chilling voice from downstairs had her sitting up and rigid in an instant. Grandfather is here. She signed, eyes fixed on the open doorway.

"Always the procrastinator." He grins, shaking his head. Folding the sweater and laying it on one of the neat piles, Scorpius tensed up for a moment, looking from his sister to the door. "I can tell him you're sick or something. I'll visit with him." He suggested, moving to sit next to her on the bed. "He's probably just here to give us a send off or something. Make sure we're prepared." Scorpius told her, listening closely for either of their names to be mentioned from downstairs. He only hears his from his grandfather.

Cassi offered her brother a smile, relieved for the moment that he was willing to lie for her so she wouldn't have to face their grandfather. She had been about to nod when their mother called from downstairs. "Scorpius! Cassiopeia! Your grandfather is here." Cringing at how close she had been to getting out of this, Cassi made a face and flopped back onto the mattress. Dread sank deep into her gut, down to her feet and generally just weighed her down. Taking a moment to collect herself, she stood and brushed herself off in the nearest mirror, trying to make herself look presentable. The last thing she needed was for Grandfather to comment that she looked like a slob. After a steadying breath, she turned to Scorp, desperately trying to hide the fear quivering in her eyes as they headed down to the Parlor.

Biting his cheek, Scorpius offered his twin a gentle smile. "I'll find a way to keep his focus on me." He whispered quietly, lacing his fingers with hers, squeezing gently to comfort her, but also to comfort himself, her hands being the important words she could not speak. Once they are closer to the parlor, Scorpius reluctantly let go of Cassi's hand, putting his own behind his back in order to look presentable and face his grandfather head on.
"Grandfather." He greeted Lucius respectfully, holding out his hand for the older man to take."Thank you for stopping by. It's a pleasure that you're here."
"Scorpius! Well-mannered as always. I have raised you right," was Lucius' reply. The taller blond looked down intimidatingly at his grand-daughter, the pride in his eyes for Scorpius dimming to cold, steel blue. "And what about you, Cassiopeia?"

Walking into the parlor felt like walking into a room of spiders, uneasiness crawling up the walls and under her skin. As always, Lucius was courteous and amiable to Scorpius, but the moment his eyes landed on her, she could feel her heart skip a beat. Forgetting, as she always tended to do, that he had always refused to learn sign language to communicate with her, she raised her trembling hands and signed. Good Afternoon, Grandfather. It's good to see you. By the time the rapid hand and finger movements were silenced, she barely had enough courage to look him in the eyes and hold out her own hand for him to shake, following Scorpius' example.

Scorpius watched his sister's hands, keeping up with the shaking and nodding when he gets the message. "Good afternoon, Grandfather. It's good to see you." He translated, giving his sister a small smile.
"Mutual, I'm sure." Lucius replied simply, fixing his cuff-links with an emotional air. "The two of you are heading off to Hogwarts in a few days, am I correct?"
"Yes grandfather."
"I am surprised that your parents chose Hogwarts over any of the other schools, after I had demonstrated my opinion on the matter." Lucius stated, looking directly at Draco. "However, you school could use another decent pure-blooded Slytherin. Have the both of you packed?"
"Cassiopeia has!" Scorpius stated bluntly, pulling back a little to keep it natural. "She's helping me do so now."

Letting her hand fall back to her side with a dejected sigh, Cassi gave her brother a side glance in thanks for translating. She didn't know what she had expected honestly, it was always the same. Their Grandfather rarely ever acknowledged her directly, and it wasn't like he bothered trying to understand her. Her train of thought was cut off when Scorpius lied for her, her eyes darting back to him with an incredulous glare. If Grandfather found out he was lying, they'd both be dead.
"Father." Draco interjected in warning when Lucius made a side comment on their choice of sending the twins to Hogwarts. He certainly had demonstrated his opinion on the matter, and often, but both he and Astoria knew it was the right choice. They had considered Beauxbatons for Cassiopeia as they had better accommodations, but they didn't want to split them up.

"That's highly irresponsible of you, Scorpius. Leaving it to the last minute like that is lazy and I expected more of you." Lucius replied, not all that stern like it would have been if he'd been talking to Cassi. He didn't even acknowledge the last bit of Scorpius' lie, turning to his son with an almost-scolding look, despite Draco being an adult. "And don't 'father' me, Draco. That school had been proven in the past to be dangerous, unreasonable, and frankly, completely ridiculous."
"With all due respect, Lucius," Astoria stepped in, resting her hand on her husband's arm in support, "the danger at Hogwarts was mostly caused by the prejudiced mindsets of a mass of people trying to play god." She pointed out, focusing on him with unwavering hazel eyes. "Draco and I both felt that Hogwarts was the right choice for both of them, as it is where both Draco and I attended school, and it would prevent us from splitting them up. We are their parents, we have made our decision." Turning to her children, she gave them both a smile. "Now go finish helping your brother pack while your grandfather, your father and I have some tea and chat, hm?"
